No Confusion in Kano, Sanusi Remains Substantive Emir – NNPP

The spokesperson of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Ladipo Johnson, has stressed that there is no confusion whatsoever regarding the legal crossfire trailing the emirship dispute in Kano.

Speaking on Newscentral’s Politics HQ on Tuesday evening, Ladipo said many had initially assumed that the first ruling given by Justice Liman was rooted in mischief given that the Federal High Court had no jurisdiction whatsoever to entertain the matter and that is why the ruling avoided interpreting the law.

“Chieftaincy is not a right, it is a privilege and the Federal High Court has no jurisdiction whatsoever to listen to a case within the state, hence, Emir Sanusi is the substantive, de-facto, de-jure Emir of Kano.

He added that matters concerning the state’s emirship are the sole preserve of the governor and more importantly, there is an interim injunction in a court of competent jurisdiction – the High Court of Kano that Emir Sanusi cannot be removed.

In the same vein, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Government, Sanusi Bature speaking on the same programme, said the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi was to “maintain the status of the emirate as an independent institution and take away the politicization”

He added that if there was no reversion, then the emirship would change when any government changes. He insists that Emir Sanusi remains the Emir of Kano and that all conflicting orders should be ignored.

Debunking speculations that Governor Yusuf’s administration is being politically vengeful, Bature said likened the government to “A forest ranger who took over the mantle of leadership from a mad lion who scattered the forest”. He said the current administration is trying to fix a state that was recklessly run for the last eight years.
