Noah Kekere, who was apprehended for allegedly removing a woman’s kidney in Jos, Plateau State, is not a medical doctor, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) findings have indicated.
Kamal Busari, a resident in Jos had accused Dr Kekere of harvesting his wife’s kidney without his knowledge. News Central reported that Kekere was apprehended on Wednesday following a report to the Nasarawa Gwon Police Division for the alleged removal of the right kidney of Mrs Kehinde Kamal during an operation in 2018.
The victim, Mrs Kehinde Kamal, in an interview with Daily Trust, said her kidney was discovered missing at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) following a repeated complaint of abdominal pain.
Speaking on the incident, the chairman of the Plateau State chapter of NMA, Dr. Bapigaan William Audu, said records at their secretariat showed that Noah Kekere is neither a medical doctor nor a member of NMA. The police have also launched an investigation into the matter.
Audu said on Sunday, “What we have at our secretariat and the investigation we have carried out showed that he (Dr Kekere) is not a doctor and not our member.
“We are going to come out with an informed decision on the matter. We are looking at different aspects of the matter as well as different facts available at the moment. So, I think things will be clearer by Monday or Tuesday.”
Kekere has reportedly gone berserk while in the police cell at the state police command on Saturday evening.
Kekere had prior to his arrest been carrying out medical treatment including surgery for more than two decades in his Murna Clinic and Maternity, located in Yanshanu Community of Jos North local government area of the state.
Kekere was rushed to the Psychiatric Unit of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) after he exhibited symptoms of mental disorder in the police cell.
A source stated that he was rushed to the hospital when he started ripping his clothes in the prison cell and was exhibiting signs of lunacy.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alfred Alabo is yet to respond to the enquiry at the time of filing this report.
