Popular Nollywood Director, Dimeji Ajibola is dead. He died on Sunday after battling an undisclosed illness, leaving a void in the Nigerian movie industry.
The news of his death was announced by fellow filmmaker Samuel Olatunji.
Olatunji posted, “Dimeji Ajibola was my client and friend. So sad to hear this news. Rest in peace to a great guy! Sad Sunday as the director of Shanty Town passed away.”
Ajibola directed visuals including ‘Shanty Town’, ‘Slum King’, ‘Hoodrush’, ‘Ovy’s Voice’, and ‘Wura’ and won several awards including Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards and Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany,
Until his death, Ajibola was honoured as a force of creativity and a visionary in the entertainment sector, merging traditional and digital art forms in innovative manners.
His work ranged from film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds and interactive media.
He had a rich educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
Ajibola adds to the list of Nollywood actors, including Charles Oluomo (Agbako), Adejumoke Aderounmu, Quadri Oyebamiji, John Okafor, Junior Pope Odonwodo and Amechi Muonagor who have died in 2024.
