Novak Djokovic Parts Ways with Coach Goran Ivanisevic

Men’s tennis world number one Novak Djokovic has announced the end of his highly successful partnership with Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic, just before the clay season kicks off.

Ivanisevic, Wimbledon singles champion in 2001, joined Djokovic’s team in 2019, contributing to Djokovic’s nine Grand Slam titles during their collaboration.

Djokovic shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of himself and Ivanisevic playing a board game, stating, “Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago… Our on-court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid.”

Acknowledging their camaraderie beyond tennis, Djokovic added humorously, “In fact, I’m proud to say (not sure he is) that apart from winning tournaments together we also had a side battle in Parchisi going on for many years. And that tournament never stops for us. Sefinjo, thanks for everything my friend. Love you.”

Djokovic’s pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam singles title was halted by Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semi-finals in January. Following his early exit at Indian Wells, he withdrew from the Miami Open to manage his schedule effectively.

As the clay season approaches, Djokovic will focus on preparations for the French Open, aiming for his fourth title at the tournament, scheduled from May 26th to June 9th, 2024.
