"Now or Never": Ruben Amorim Takes on Manchester United Challenge

Ruben Amorim has been appointed as Manchester United’s new manager, joining on November 11 following Erik ten Hag’s sacking after United’s disappointing season so far. United officials told the 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon coach it was “now or never” to take the reins at Old Trafford, where he’s signed on until 2027.

Amorim, praised as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, expressed the whirlwind nature of his decision-making. “The only question I made was to go at the end of the season,” he said after Sporting’s 5-1 win over Estrela, “but I was told it was now or never. I had three days to make the decision. That’s what I did.”

With Sporting set to receive €11 million for his departure, Amorim will take charge of their next Champions League matches, taking charge of United’s squad on November 24 against Ipswich.

Amorim arrives during United’s struggles, with the club currently 14th in the Premier League and barely competing in the Europa League. Former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will act as caretaker manager until Amorim’s arrival and prepares the squad for a crucial clash against Chelsea this weekend.
