The board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of ₦1 million on Enyimba FC for publishing derogatory comments about match officials following their game against Ikorodu City.
In a post on its X account on Tuesday, the NPFL stated that Enyimba FC was charged for “publishing disparaging comments against match officials on their social media account” after their 2-1 win over Ikorodu City in Aba, Abia State.
The NPFL added that the club’s remarks were “capable of bringing the game into disrepute.”
The league body warned Enyimba against posting inflammatory statements in the future and urged them to use the appropriate channels to file complaints, noting that repeated offences would incur heavier sanctions.
Enyimba received the ₦1 million fine for the infraction, with the option to appeal within 48 hours of receiving the notice.
Similarly, the NPFL fined Kano Pillars ₦2 million for comments made by Ahmed Musa criticising match officials.
Following Kano Pillars’ loss to Nasarawa United on Sunday, the club issued a statement quoting Musa’s strong criticism of match officiating. The Super Eagles captain expressed doubt over his decision to return to the NPFL, saying, “If I keep witnessing such officiating, I cannot encourage anyone to return to the NPFL. It would be a waste of our efforts if this continued.”
The NPFL further charged Kano Pillars with failing to control their team’s conduct, leading to unruly behaviour by player Ugochukwu Gabriel during the match.
The club received a cumulative fine of ₦2 million for both offences.
