The start of the 2023–24 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season has once again been delayed. The postponement was disclosed by the NPFL Board on Wednesday.
The decision was taken following discussions with stakeholders by Davidson Owumi, the NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).
“We have everything set for the kickoff in Ibadan on Saturday but following representations from multiple stakeholders and more cogent is the complex logistics involved in having our Chairman and Clubs leadership travel from Ibadan to Uyo,” Owumi said.
“Note therefore that there will be no flag-off game this Saturday, September 9 as originally planned,” the statement added.
He claims that teams that may have begun making preparations for the NPFL season to begin on September 9 earlier than that date have been informed of the change. The campaign was initially scheduled to launch on August 26 rather than in September.
