NSA Confirms Binance Executive’s Escape; Arrests Complicit Officials

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has confirmed that Binance Regional Manager for Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla, escaped from lawful custody and fled out of the country with a smuggled passport.

Head of Strategic Communication at ONSA, Zakari Mijinyawa, issued a statement on Monday, March 25. Part of the statement read that “preliminary investigation shows that Mr Anjarwalla fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport.”

The statement added: “The personnel responsible for the custody of the suspect have been arrested, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his escape from lawful detention.”

News Central reported that 38-year-old Anjarwalla escaped from custody on Friday, March 22, 2024, where he was detained with his colleague at the Abuja guest house.

The Binance executive allegedly escaped after guards escorted him to a nearby mosque for prayers during the ongoing Ramadan fast.

Also, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Monday, announced that it had filed a four-count charge of tax evasion against Binance and two of its executives, one of whom is Anjarwalla, before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
