Kenya’s top national security team said safety and security is guaranteed for Kenyans, in spite of the conflicts relating to Raila Odinga’s rejection of election results announced Tuesday, which saw the top candidate lose to UDA‘s William Ruto.

According to the National Security and Advisory Committee (NSAC), further “constitutional” procedures were expected to follow after William Ruto was officially declared Kenya’s President-elect on Monday.

However, Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, said the party “totally and without reservation” rejected the results announced.

Odinga maintained that “the tally of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which awarded him 48.8 percent against Ruto’s 50.49 percent was null and void, because four other commissioners of the electoral body were not given the opportunity to scrutinise the figures.”

This came shortly after the four commissioners individually cited irregularities in the results, alleging that the total votes garnered as announced, exceeded 100 per cent, which made no logical sense.
