NSCDC Reaffirms Commitment to Combatting Illegal Bunkering Activities

The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to combating vandals and oil thieves throughout the Niger Delta region.

In a statement to the Corps correspondents, the Commander of the Squad, DC Dandaura Appolos, emphasised that the nation’s economy could be revitalised if all relevant stakeholders worked together to eliminate illegal bunkering activities, particularly in the coastal areas.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the squad uncovered four surface reservoirs constructed with trampolines, that were being used to store crude oil syphoned from vandalised wellheads. These reservoirs were connected with metal galvanised pipes and hoses, processed locally, and then transported to buyers.

Additionally, the squad dismantled six newly built local cooking pots, each with a capacity of 60,000 litres. Among the seized exhibits were: large trampolines used as reservoirs for storing significant quantities of stolen crude oil; four locally fabricated cooking ovens; numerous galvanised metal pipes, various sizes of rubber hoses; three shovels; one metal bucket; multiple nylon bags containing stolen crude oil; personal items such as clothing and slippers; and effects presumed to belong to the vandals.

DC Appolos highlighted the importance of continuous vigilance and cooperation among stakeholders to curb these illegal activities and safeguard the nation’s economic interests.
