The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disclosed its discovery of five illegal refineries at Obodo community Creek in Warri North, Delta State.
The Commandant General’s Special Anti-Vandal Monitoring Unit (SAVMU) which carried out the operation, busted the illegal oil refineries where adulterated petroleum products were allegedly being produced and distributed to unsuspecting users across the country.
Spokesperson of NSCDC, Mr Olusola Odumosu in a statement, said the operation was initiated following information reaching them about the illegal activities of oil vandals within the area, where two suspects were apprehended while others managed to escape.
He further revealed that a few other persons alleged to own some of the dislodged refineries were also arrested and are currently being questioned for information gathering.
Mr. Odumosu also revealed that the NSCDC, Squad Commander DCC Brah Umoru Samson who led the operation, has assured Nigerians that no act of compromise on the country’s economy will be tolerated, adding that the way to go was to shun illegal oil operations by embracing legal businesses for their good and that of the country.
He added that all discovered refineries, including materials used at the sites were destroyed. He gave assurance that arrested culprits will be prosecuted, and those on the run will be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law.
