The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a residential property in Elelewo, Obio/Akpor, Rivers State, being used to store illegally refined petroleum products.
The premises housed large storage tanks and containers filled with the contraband items.
Rivers State NSCDC Commandant, Joachim Okafor, credited the discovery to the Corps’ Anti-Vandal Unit and its newly deployed crude oil theft detection technology.
Okafor highlighted the severe environmental and health consequences of crude oil theft, in addition to its economic impact on the nation.
