Nurkovic confident of Kaizer Chiefs title win

Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic is confident his side will win the South African Premier Soccer League title which has eluded them for five years.

Nurkovic who said he does not know why the Amakhosi have not won the league title in five years, stated that his first impression of the club when he arrived was that the club deserved much more than the current trophy drought, they are in.

Chiefs currently top the PSL table on goals difference and look to get their first league title since 2015.

Relegation threatened Baroka FC stand in their way on the final day of the PSL season, and Amakhosi have to win convincingly to ensure their coronation on the day.

“I wasn’t here for the past five seasons, but what I thought when I arrived at this big club, Kaizer Chiefs is that it’s not acceptable to not win the title because [Chiefs] deserve everything the way everything is working in the club – everything is on the highest level, the players have basically everything,” Nurkovic said.

Nurkovic has vowed the team will do everything within their power when they face Baroka on the final day.

“So, we deserve to be on the first place and we’ve fought from the beginning of the season to be there, and we’re going to fight in the last game for the entire 90 minutes to secure [the league title],” Nurkovic added.

The striker also talked about his joy and excitement if his side lifts the PSL title.

“I think it will mean a lot to the chairman because it’s the 50-year celebration, and I’ll be happy that in my first season I’d have won this title,” he said.

Nurkovic is currently two goals behind Highlands Park’s Peter Shalulile and Orlando Pirates Gabadinho Mhango in the hunt for the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award.

Chiefs have topped the PSL standings since August 2019, and will hope to end the season as champions.
