Nvidia Faces AI Chip Production Setback, Affecting Microsoft and Others

The forthcoming artificial intelligence chips by Nvidia may experience a delay of three months or more due to design flaws, according to a tech-focused publication. This setback could impact major customers, including Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and Microsoft, who have collectively placed orders worth tens of billions of dollars.

Earlier this year, Nvidia introduced its Blackwell chip series, which is set to replace the previous Grace Hopper Superchip. The Grace Hopper Superchip was designed to accelerate generative AI applications.

In response to the report, an Nvidia spokesperson stated, “As we’ve stated before, Hopper demand is very strong, broad Blackwell sampling has started, and production is on track to ramp in the second half.”

Microsoft declined to comment further, and both Meta and Google chose not to address the issue publicly.

According to The Information, Nvidia has notified Microsoft and another major cloud service provider about the delay in the production of its most advanced AI chip in the Blackwell series. This information was confirmed by a Microsoft employee and another source familiar with the matter.
