The Nigerian government has officially started disbursing the new monthly allowance of N77,000 for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
Several corps members confirmed receiving alerts indicating that the stipend has increased, ending the prolonged delay that led to dissatisfaction and protests. Nigeria’s social media was agog with the news, which came after the Minister of Youth assured that the government would address the backlog of the N77,000 allowance.

For several months, the Nigerian government has been slow in implementing the approved increase in allowance, attributing delays to budgetary limitations and bureaucratic hurdles.
The minister clarified that although President Bola Tinubu had approved the allowance increase months earlier, the actual disbursement depended on budgetary provisions that had not been established at the time of the announcement.
The increase aligns with the recent minimum wage changes agreed by labour unions and the government.
