The paramount ruler of Benin Kingdom, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, has appealed to the Nigerian youths to drop the planned protest slated for August 1, 2024.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Osaigbovo Iguobaro, the monarch stated that he is optimistic that things will get better soon.

He appealed to aggrieved Nigerians to give the Federal Government sufficient time to implement its economic policies expected to alleviate the present economic hardship.

“For things to get better, it has to be tough for a while.”

The Monarch also appealed to the federal government to intensify efforts to enhance national security and economic policies.

Oba Ewuare therefore advised organisers of nationwide protest to shelve the plan.

Some youths had proposed August 1, 2024 to begin a 10-day nationwide hunger and hardship demonstration across the Nigeria citing economic hardship and high cost of living.

In response, state governors and relevant security agencies have been having marathon meetings to consider to ease the effects of a likely nationwide protest.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to give him more time to address their concerns, adding that he would fulfill his promises to the masses.
