The Obi-Datti rally entered full swing in Lagos and others parts of Nigeria on Saturday, October 1, 2022 coinciding with Nigeria’s 62nd independence day anniversary.
Members of the Labour Party and supporters of its presidential candidate Peter Obi commenced their rallies in major cities in the country with pomp and pageantry.
‘Obidients’ as the LP candidate supporters are popularly known, converged at strategic locations in Lagos, Plateau, Kaduna, Abia, Edo, amongst other states in Nigeria.
In Lagos, the supporters started the walk from the Admiralty Junction moving through the major roads in Lekki.
They moved around in bright wears, banners and other paraphernalia as they chanted towards Jakande, Elegushi axis, an apparent move to avoid confrontation with police teams stationed at the Lekki Toll Gate.
A Lagos court ruled on Wednesday against the convergence of the rally on Lekki Toll Gate.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the order.
According to its conveners, the rally is intended create organic visibility and to garner more support for the LP presidential candidate ahead of February 2023 general polls.
Obi, 61, alongside his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed have promised to inject fresh ideas into governance in the country.
They will be squaring up against candidates of the New Nigeria People’s Party, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party amongst others.
