In an attempt to overturn a narrow win by William Ruto at the just concluded presidential polls, flagbearer of the Azimio La Umoja, Raila Odinga has included fresh charges of fraud in his petition to the Supreme court.
His lawyers attached a testimony from anti-corruption campaigner John Githongo, in which he claims to have evidence of widespread, systematic manipulation of the computerised results database.
Githongo says a contact reached out to him with evidence that a tech team of 50 people worked to breach the tallying process, digitally altering results from counting stations in Ruto’s favour before uploading them to the election commission website.
Githongo explained that Dennis Itumbi, a digital strategist working for the declared winner of the election, William Ruto was one of those involved.
Reacting to the accusation on Twitter, Itumbi said: “The Fiction presented as a serious case! I am reading about myself in what sounds like a wild novel.”
To verify whether systematic tampering of the declaration documents has taken place, the forms lodged with the electoral commission will have to be compared with the original hard copies of the forms completed by returning officers at local counting stations.
Odinga lodged his petition with the Supreme Court on Monday, which has 14 days to make a ruling.
