Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu (retd), on Wednesday, debunked the claim that he had been appointed as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to reports gathered by News Central TV, news of Odumosu’s supposed selection to head the anti-graft agency circulated across various media platforms late Tuesday, attributing the appointment to President Bola Tinubu.

However, in an exclusive conversation, Odumosu refuted the claim, emphasising that the information originated from individuals with malicious intent. Nevertheless, he urged the public to disregard the information altogether.

Odumosu said, “I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”.

“I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue. This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be disregarded.”

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the agency, was suspended by Tinubu, who subsequently instructed Abdulkarim Chukkol to assume the role of acting leader within the anti-graft agency.
