As part of its ongoing advocacy for a better Nigeria, the Pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on insecurity and economic hardship, highlighting the persistent challenges facing the nation.
The organisation also appealed to the 36 state governors to support the President in combating these pressing issues.
This call was made in the organisation’s 2025 New Year message to Nigerians, signed and released in Awka by its National Vice President, Chief Demian Okeke-Ogene.
According to Chief Okeke-Ogene, while President Tinubu deserves commendation for ensuring the availability of premium motor spirit (PMS) during the festive season, greater focus is needed on addressing insecurity, economic hardship, hunger, and other humanitarian challenges plaguing the country.
“Nigerians are still grappling with insecurity and economic hardship,” he stated. “The Federal Government, under President Tinubu’s leadership, must create an environment where every Nigerian, regardless of political, tribal, ethnic, or regional affiliation, feels a sense of belonging. The high cost of living has driven many, especially the youth, into criminal activities.”
He urged the President to urgently declare a state of emergency on insecurity and hardship across all six geopolitical zones of the country.
Chief Okeke-Ogene also expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s efforts in establishing the South East Development Commission (SEDC). He further commended the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his transformative policies, particularly in youth development.
Reflecting on the New Year celebrations, Chief Okeke-Ogene said:
“As we embrace the festive spirit of the yuletide, I pray that Almighty God comforts us in our moments of worry, strengthens us in our times of weakness, and illuminates our darkest hours, in Jesus’ name.”
He expressed hope for a brighter future, saying:
“I am optimistic about a better life for all Nigerians and pray that 2025 brings unity and happiness to our nation.”
The Ohanaeze Vice President concluded with a call for collective efforts to address the country’s challenges and foster a prosperous Nigeria.
