Former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State Chapter, Mr Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, was elected as the new National President of the Union on Saturday.
Akinsanya was the only candidate in the election, which took place at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat, located along the Osogbo/Ikirun road in Southwest Nigeria. Delegates from four Southwest states, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti, participated in the election.
The election occurred during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference and was observed by Aliyu Issa-Ore, the acting National President.
Issa-Ore addressed the attendees, clarifying that the Union’s Constitution states that the zone allowed to fill the national president’s role would elect its candidate and submit them to the national body.
The delegates also selected Tajudeen Agbede as Vice President for the Southwest and appointed Akeem Adeosun as a Trustee from that region.
Shortly after being sworn in, Akinsanya, flanked by family and associates, urged for harmony and promised to strive for unity among the members.
