Omanyala Beats Simbine Again To Power Kenya’s Relay Team To Historic Feat

Ferdinand Omanyala was again at the centre of another historic feat to power Kenya’s 4x100m relay team to gold at the African Senior Athletics Championship in Mauritius.

Omanyala took the anchor leg and beat Akani Simbine’s South Africa at a time of 39.28s to clinch the feat for the first time.

Kenya, known for heroic performances in long distance races is rewriting their reality as they’ve added the sprints to their illustrious list of dominance.

After finishing the 100m race on Thursday with a wind-enabled time of 9.93s, Omanyala also championed Kenya’s highest podium standing at the relays.

South Africa came second at the event and won the silver medal with 39.79s while Zimbabwe came third at 39.81s. Nigeria missed out on a podium finish with 39.98s and a fourth-place finish.

Omanyala has now won two gold medals for Kenya at the games and has said his aim is to become a world champion and break the world record in the 100m.
