The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has expressed sadness over the death of one of its governorship candidates, Dr. Paul Akintelure on Tuesday, March 26.
The state’s party spokesperson, Alex Kalejaye, revealed in a statement that the late Akintelure was preparing to participate in the party’s primary scheduled for April 2024.
The Ondo APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, described the deceased as a personal friend with whom he shared a strong bond over the years, aside from politics.
Adetimehin, expressing shock at the news, said the Ondo governorship aspirant was a highly respected and consistent political figure, highlighting his undying belief in using politics as a means to uplift both the people and the land.
“The contributions of the departed political leader, to the development and stability of Ondo State chapter of APC will not be forgotten.
“Like other governorship aspirants, he was optimistic of victory, come April. He had many other plans, death was never part of them.
“The State chapter condoles with the immediate family, Igbotako Community, his political associates, and the Nigerian Medical Association,” Adetimehin said.
News Central reported Dr. Akintelure’s death on Tuesday morning after a statement signed by Oladapo S. Akintelure, the spokesperson for the Dr. Paul Akintelure family, confirmed that he passed on.
The medical doctor turned politician died in Lagos aged 61, days after alleging a threat to his life. The cause of his death has not been confirmed.
