Incumbent Governor of Ondo state Rotimi Akeredolu is close to confirming his second term in office. He is leading from the announced results of 16 local government areas from the 18 according to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), from Saturdays poll.
The collation and announcement is ongoing at INEC State headquarters in Akure. Akeredolu, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won in 13 LGAs while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, won in three.
The Deputy Governor and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, has not won any Local Government so far.
Available data indicates that, shows that the APC candidate is leading his closest rival, Jegede, with 59,171 votes.
A breakdown of the figures can be seen below:
Akeredolu has so far garnered 252,880 votes.
Jegede is a close second with 179,623 votes.
Ajayi is a distant third with 73,257 votes.
17 political parties started this apparent three horse race, all contesting in the governorship election held in 18 local governments of Ondo state.
