A stabbing attack in eastern France has left one person dead and several others wounded, including three police officers, according to local reports.
The suspect, who was already on a terror watchlist, has been taken into custody.
The incident occurred in the city of Mulhouse shortly before 4:00 PM (15:00 GMT) on Saturday, during a public demonstration.
According to France’s national anti-terror prosecutors unit (PNAT), which is now leading the investigation, a passerby was fatally stabbed while attempting to intervene, and officers were injured as they confronted the assailant.
Authorities have deployed military backup and forensic teams to secure the scene and gather evidence.

According to Mulhouse public prosecutor Nicolas Heitz, the suspect, a 37-year-old man, was already on the terrorism prevention watchlist (FSPRT)—a database created in 2015 following the Charlie Hebdo and Jewish supermarket attacks in Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron labelled the attack as “Islamist terrorism,” while Prime Minister François Bayrou condemned it as an act of fanaticism.
“Horror has seized our city,” Mulhouse Mayor Michèle Lutz said in a statement.
The PNAT is investigating the attack as murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise.
As authorities continue their investigation, security remains tight in Mulhouse, with heightened vigilance across France over ongoing concerns about extremist threats.
