One Killed, 10 Abducted in Another Kaduna School Attack

In yet another attack on a school in Kaduna state, one person has been reportedly killed and eight were kidnapped.

Gunmen, late on Thursday attacked the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State killing one student while sporadically shooting, abducting eight other students and two lecturers.

Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. He said two students were shot but one is still receiving treatment in the hospital.

Some family members of the abducted lecturers were also initially held by the bandits according to local reports but they have been released.

Banditry, as terrorism and kidnappings in North West Nigeria are coined, has been raging in the region with Kaduna, Zamfara and Katsina all having a share of the debacle. While secondary school students have been abducted for ransom in Katsina, and Zamfara States, higher institution undergraduates have suffered similar fate in Kaduna with the latest abduction being the third of its kind on a university, polytechnic or specialised college.

Students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna were abducted earlier in the year while others from Greenfield University were only recently released, with five of them killed by their abductors.

Nigeria has been ravaged by kidnap-for-ransom with more than 800 students kidnapped in 2021 alone.
