The United States Navy is persistently conducting a search for two Navy SEALs who disappeared off the coast of Somalia on Thursday night last week. The search operation, employing ships and aircraft, is actively underway in the Gulf of Aden.
The SEALs went missing during an attempt to intercept a dhow carrying a weapons shipment, as reported by US defense officials. The incident occurred as one of the SEALs fell into the turbulent night-time waters while boarding the dhow, prompting the second SEAL to jump in for a rescue attempt. Regrettably, neither of them resurfaced.
They were part of a naval unit dedicated to intercepting weapons and other illegal shipments in the region. This operation is said to be unrelated to the ongoing efforts to protect vessels in the Red Sea from attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebel group.
