Only 6% Of Africa’s Population Are Fully Vaccinated – Africa CDC

Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC) has revealed that just a little above 6 per cent of the entire African population have been fully vaccinated.

Director of Africa CDC, John Nkegasong revealed this on Thursday as he gave update about the disease. He said there’s a reduction in the number of new infections and said the case incidence of the disease has risen to 8.5 million. There have been 220,000 case fatalities or deaths recorded so far on the continent.

Nkegasong in the weekly briefing said 7.96million people have recovered from the disease as he added that just above 8 million specimens have been worked on across Africa.

The previous week from November 1-7 in comparison with the week between the 25th of October to the 31st of the same month, saw a 4% reduction in the number of case incidences.

Vaccine performance in Africa has been very low, with just 6.06% of the 1.3bn people population fully vaccinated so far. Morocco has reached its population the best, having vaccinated 60% of its people.

There are 357.9 vaccines released for Africa so far but only a paltry 204.3 million doses have been administered. Various African leaders have decried the inadequacy of vaccines on the continent.
