Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has denied accusations of childhood sexual abuse made by his sister, Annie Altman. The allegations were publicly addressed by Altman in a letter co-signed by his mother and two brothers, which was posted on social media platform X.
In the letter, the Altman family expressed their distress over the claims, stating, “…Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, especially Sam.” They also emphasised their ongoing concern for Annie’s well-being, acknowledging the challenges of caring for a family member facing mental health difficulties.
Annie Altman’s legal complaint, filed on Monday, accuses Sam of sexual abuse that allegedly took place from 1997, when she was three, until 2006. The family, however, vehemently denies the accusations, calling them utterly untrue and highlighting that Annie’s claims have evolved over time.
Sam Altman, who gained global recognition with the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, also expressed his concern for his sister’s mental health. The Altman family revealed that they had provided financial support to Annie for years and continued to do so. They stated that the public response was prompted by the seriousness of the allegations and the legal action taken by Annie.
