A protest known as Operation Dudula against illegal immigration has been revived in South Africa. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at a migrant centre in Soweto, South Africa, waving South African flags and screaming songs against immigrants who, they claim have seized their jobs.
Operation Dudula, which has gained traction in recent weeks, has seen a group of South Africans hit the streets in several locations, the most recent of which was in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, calling for all illegal aliens to leave the country.
Xenophobic protests have previously devolved into bloodshed. At least 62 individuals were killed in attacks against foreigners in 2008, and another seven were killed in similar violence in 2015.
