Administrative officer of Orlando Pirates, Floyd Mbele says the management of the club is satisfied with the impact of coach Josef Zinnbauer and what he has done since his arrival as coach late last year.
Zinnbauer’s mandate as coach of Pirates was to stabilize the team after the rough patch between August and December 2019.
Pirates were at the bottom half of the table when Zinnbauer took over from Rhulani Mokwena.
The Buccaneers under Zinnbauer won a series of matches to put them back in the title race before the season got suspended in March.
“Well we are fairly satisfied (with Zinnbauer) given the task that was at hand in terms of him stabilising the team,” Mbele said.
Mbele went on to say that the proper assessment on Zinnbauer as head coach of the Buccaneers will be done at the end of the current campaign, also insisting that things can still change with the team having seven more league games to play when or if the league resumes.
“Obviously there are seven games to go. So, I think this question is better responded to at the end of the season,” he continued.
“It would be presumptuous [to assess him at the moment]. I mean anything can happen in those seven games which could put us back to something that we wanted to avoid.
“I think in all respects, it might be something that we deal with at the end and not now.”
Orlando Pirates are currently in fourth place on the PSL table with 40 points from 23 league matches, and just eight points behind table toppers Kaizer Chiefs.
Zinnbauer consistently downplayed the possibility of his side winning the league and dethroning archrivals Kaizer Chiefs even with eight points separating both sides.
The Buccaneers have gone six years without winning a trophy, twice they came close to winning the league trophy when former coach Micho Sredojevic was in charge during his two-year stint at the club.
2014 was the last time Pirates won a major trophy beating Bidvest Wits 3-1 to lift the Nedbank Cup.
