Sylvester Oromoni Snr, the father of the late 12-year-old student of Dowen College Sylvester Junior, who died under controversial circumstances after allegedly being bullied and forced to consume a substance, has rejected the judgment of the Coroner inquest which instead indicted him, his wife and the family doctor for their son’s death.
The inquest absolved the school and any of the students of any wrongdoing.
Mr Oromoni said the case wasn’t over as the coroner failed to identify or reach a conclusion on the substance that was found in the deceased’s stomach.
The younger Oromoni died on November 30, 2021 after allegedly being bullied and beaten by some senior students in the same school he attended. He was then allegedly forced to consume an unknown black substance which was believed to cause his death.
However, in a twist of events, the coroner held the deceased’s parents and the family doctor of negligence and said the boy’s death was avoidable.
Mikhail Kadiri, the coroner, in his judgment at the Ikeja Magistrate Court, held that Favour Benjamin, (16); Edward Begue (16); Ansel Temile (14); Kenneth Inyang and Michael Kashamu, (16), the school (Dowen College) and its members of staff did not play any role in the death of the deceased.
According to him “The alleged suspects played no part in Sylvester’s death but were victims of their past misdeeds. They were falsely accused, and no staff of Dowen College played any role in the death”.
