Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala and her Barcelona team have been knocked out at the semi-final stage of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League after losing 1-0 to German side Wolfsburg.
The 25-year-old started up-front for the Spanish team and fired wide in the box with just 7 minutes in.
And 5 minutes later, the 3-time Nations Cup winner with Nigeria’s Super Falcons also flicked-in a header from a corner which appeared to have struck the hand of Wolfsburg defender Kathrin Hendrich inside the 6-yard area, but appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears.
Swedish winger Fridolina Rolfoe scored the only goal of the game for the German Champions in the 58th minute, stabbing the ball in from close range as Barcelona failed to clear their lines.
Oshoala, who was substituted in the 65th minute, then headed towards goal on the hour-mark from Leila Ouahabi’s cross on the left, but her attempt produced a brilliant finger-tip save from Wolfsburg goalkeeper Friederike Abt.
Wolfsburg, winners in 2013 and 2014, held out for the win to reach their fifth European final, and will face either defending Champions and 4-time winners Olympique Lyon or Paris St-Germain in Sunday’s final in San Sebastian, Spain.
Both French teams will square up in the second semi-final in Bilbao.
