The Nigeria national team camp has thrown open its doors, and all 23 invited players have already answered the call of duty. Head coach Jose Peseiro has officially welcomed all 23 players to the Super Eagles training camp in Uyo, where they will prepare for their upcoming match against Sao Tome and Principe.
The Super Eagles camp at the Four Points by Sheraton has begun operations, and remarkably, every player listed in the 23-man roster has eagerly checked in. Leading the charge in camp is Victor Osimhen, the striking sensation from Napoli, closely followed by Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan, and Tyronne Ebuehi of Empoli.
The England-based Nigerian contingent, featuring Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest, Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, and Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City, Calvin Bassey of Fulham, Frank Onyeka of Brentford, Semi Ajayi of West Brom, and Joe Aribo of Southampton, have all landed in camp.
Among the newcomers to the Super Eagles squad, Torunarigha Jordan, Orban Gift, and Boniface Victor were among the first to answer the call to international duty. Stand-in captain William Troost-Ekong has made his way from Greece, while Raphael Onyedika of Club Brugge has travelled from his base in Belgium to join the team.
The presence of goalkeepers Uzoho Francis, Adeleye Adebayo, Leke Ojo, Nantes winger Moses Simon, and Boavista’s Bruno Onyemaechi has also been officially confirmed.
The Super Eagles players touched down at the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State, where they were warmly received by the State FA Normalization Committee and promptly escorted to their accommodations.
Earlier this week, team coach Jose Peseiro arrived in Uyo, accompanied by three of his assistants. They assessed the playing condition of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the venue for the upcoming match.
Nigeria is set to face off against Sao Tome and Principe this Sunday in the final qualifying match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Having already secured their spot in the tournament, the Super Eagles are in high spirits.
The Confederation of African Football has designated Algerian official Lahlou Benbraham as the referee for Sunday’s showdown.
