Super Eagles’ striker and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, has earned a nomination for the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week following his outstanding performance on Wednesday.
Osimhen showcased his prowess by netting his first goal of the season for Napoli during their Champions League clash against Barcelona. His crucial goal resulted in a 1-1 draw against the reigning LALIGA champions on Wednesday night.
The opening goal was scored by Barcelona’s striker, Robert Lewandowski, with Osimhen equalising shortly after in the game.
The three other players Osimhen will be contending with for the award are; Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, FC Porto’s Galeno, and PSV star Donyell Malen.
Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan praised the exceptional talents of both Osimhen and Lewandowski on the field, hailing them as “world-class footballers.”
“Both are exceptional strikers; they possess the ability to find the back of the net and are adept at finishing,” Gundogan remarked, as quoted by Tribal Football.
“Robert adapts well to our style of play, displaying excellent ball control even in challenging conditions. Osimhen demonstrates aggression when facing an opponent, showcasing diverse qualities. They are undoubtedly two world-class footballers,” Gundogan concluded.
