Osun Governor Adeleke Crowned as “Asiwaju of Ede Land”

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, celebrated his chieftaincy installation and 64th birthday anniversary on Monday, May 13 in Ede Town with fanfare and festivities.

Governor Adeleke was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Edeland by the Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.

The occasion was attended by notable dignitaries including the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, his Ogun counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff; and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Adeleke pledged to be “a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole.”

He also dedicated the award to his late elder brother and former first civilian governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke – the last holder of the title – and other family members.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, announced that the decision to confer the Asiwaju title on Adeleke is a testament to his significant contributions to the growth and development of Ede and Osun State in general.

News Central reports that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) congratulated Governor Adeleke on his 64th birthday and new title in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba on behalf of the party.

“Our Party is proud of Governor Adeleke’s massive delivery of life-enhancing infrastructural, citizens empowerment and human capital projects in all critical sectors including power, healthcare, education, road construction, water resources, agriculture and food production among others in line with the manifesto and policy thrust of the PDP,” the statement read in part.

“The PDP rejoices with Governor Adeleke on his birthday and conferment as the Asiwaju of Edeland and prays to God to bless him with many more years of celebration and good health to the glory of His name,” a part of the statement also read.
