In light of renewed communal tensions between the Ifon and Ilobu communities, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an immediate curfew in the affected areas.
This was announced by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, via a statement released on Friday in Osogbo, the state capital.
The curfew, running from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily, aims to prevent further violence and restore peace. Security forces, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, have been deployed to maintain order.
The state government also plans to establish a stakeholder committee, comprising community representatives, service chiefs, traditional rulers, and relevant bodies, to resolve the conflict permanently.
Alimi warned that anyone found instigating or engaging in violence would face strict legal consequences, emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region.
