The newly elected chairmen of the 30 local government councils in Osun State have been presented with their Certificates of Return.
On Saturday, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had won all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the Southwestern state.
A day later, the commission officially handed certificates to the successful candidates.
The OSIEC Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, confirmed the presentation in a statement on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
She stated that the commission’s chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye, congratulated the newly elected chairmen and urged them to uphold democratic values in their governance.
Meanwhile, the Osun chapter of the PDP praised voters for exercising their democratic rights in the local government elections.

Hon. Sunday Bisi, the state’s PDP chairman, lauded the electorate as “heroes of democracy” and commended their resilience despite alleged provocations by compromised security personnel, particularly the police.
“In the lead-up to and during the election, anti-democratic forces sought to obstruct the process through biased opinions and unlawful interference,” Bisi stated.
“It was a test of our people’s commitment to democracy, reminiscent of the military era. However, Osun residents stood firm in asserting their right to vote. As a party, we honour them as true defenders of democracy.”
Bisi condemned the violence that marred the election period and called on security agencies to arrest one Ademoroti Adeboye.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to disrupt the election through violence, resulting in the death of a barber in Ilesa East and injuries to several others.
“The killing of Ajilore Ifeoluwa, an innocent voter, allegedly by Ademoroti Adeboye (aka Germani), a known associate of former Osun House of Assembly Speaker Timothy Owoeye, is appalling. Shockingly, this happened in the presence of the police, yet no arrest was made,” Bisi alleged.
