Osun State Plans to Establish Special Food Marts

To ensure that food items are sold to residents at controlled prices, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, located in southwestern Nigeria, has announced plans by his administration to create special food marts across the state.

Adeleke made this announcement during a rally in Osogbo, where he highlighted his administration’s achievements in improving the welfare of workers and retirees. He emphasised that since assuming office, both active and retired workers have experienced improved conditions through the regular payment of salaries and pensions.

Furthermore, Adeleke stated that his administration has settled salary arrears owed to workers by previous administrations. He acknowledged the prevailing economic challenges in the country and assured citizens that palliative measures are being implemented.

In his words: “Dear comrades, our government takes judicious note of current national economic challenges. We acknowledge the pain and suffering of our people. Let me assure you that local and national efforts are ongoing to bring succour to our people.

“On the current fuel scarcity, I am happy to inform us all that the state task force on petroleum products has deployed monitoring teams to ensure that fuel hoarding is stopped as supply increases.

Our government is working to create special food marts across the state. Such centres will sell food items at controlled prices to address the current high level of food inflation.”

In his commitment to fostering better relationships with workers, Adeleke directed the Head of Service to distribute newly acquired vehicles to Permanent Secretaries to enhance productivity. Furthermore, plans are said to be in place to release additional bonds to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme to alleviate the impact of the current economic challenges.

Adeleke also announced plans to recruit new teachers for primary and secondary levels of education in coordination with the Head of Service and relevant education agencies.

In his remarks, Christopher Arapasopo, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State, commended Adeleke for his notable achievements and unwavering support for workers.
