Over 100 inmates have broken free from a prison in Chad during a shoot-out that resulted in three fatalities and injured a state governor who was visiting the site.
The escape took place on Friday when a rebellion erupted in the high-security prison located five kilometres from the town of Mongo, in the central part of the country.
Hassan Souleymane Adam, the secretary general of the Guera province where Mongo is situated, said, “Approximately 100 individuals have escaped, with three dead and three injured.”

A local official from Mongo, who requested to remain unnamed while speaking to AFP, reported that the inmates accessed a manager’s office to seize firearms. The official confirmed that three individuals had died and estimated the number of escaped inmates to be 132.
