The Nigerian Navy, through its vessel NNS SOROH, has delivered free medical services to over 2,000 residents in the Tombia community, located in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, in Nigeria’s South-South region.
The outreach, conducted under the Central Naval Command, took place on Saturday and included free health consultations, medical checkups, health education, the distribution of insecticide-treated nets, and essential medications.
Commander of NNS SOROH, Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami, stated that the initiative was part of efforts to foster stronger ties with the local population and reinforce civil-military cooperation.
“This medical outreach is part of our corporate social responsibility and follows the CNS strategic directive on civil-military relations,” Akinbami noted.

He added that similar medical interventions would soon be extended to other local government areas such as Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw, as part of the Navy’s broader plan to support communities and improve living conditions.
The outreach received praise from local leaders and residents. Mr Exodus Ebi, Chairman of the Community Development Committee in Tombia, commended the Navy for addressing urgent healthcare needs in the area.
One of the beneficiaries, Titus Ebiwari, expressed his appreciation, stating that the free medical screening helped him discover previously undiagnosed high blood pressure and low blood sugar levels, allowing him to take proactive steps toward better health.
