The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will deploy over 5,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS) across Edo state’s 4,519 polling units and 211 collation centres ahead of the governorship polls on Saturday.
These devices are key to ensuring voter identification and accountability. Additional sensitive materials were flown into Benin Airport on Wednesday and transported to secure facilities.
To support logistics, INEC has bolstered its collaboration with transport unions, providing extra financial support.
Over 18,000 ad-hoc staff will be deployed, including Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, and Supervisory Presiding Officers, to manage operations at the polling units.
INEC is also engaging with political parties, civil society groups, and community leaders to ensure a transparent and inclusive process.
With the campaigns of 17 political parties ending today, attention now shifts to the poll, with leading candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) competing for the governorship.
To ensure a secure election environment, over 8,000 additional security personnel from various agencies will join the 35,000 already deployed by the Nigeria Police Force.
