The Oyo State Government has set Saturday, June 1, 2024, as the date for the solemn state burial of the 42nd Olubadan Olubadan of Ibadanland, late Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun.
This event will mark the commencement of preparations for the coronation of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, reports say.
News Central reports that Oba Balogun died on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the age of 81 after a two-year reign, leaving the throne vacant.
The state burial for the revered Oba Balogun will take place at the prestigious main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, situated in the heart of Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
It has been reliably gathered that the official announcement of the coronation date will follow immediately after the burial rites of the late Oba Balogun.
In a ceremony steeped in tradition, the Ibadan kingmakers nominated Oba Olakulehin as the chosen successor to the revered Olubadan throne, and the 43rd to ascend to ascend the throne.
The duly completed nominated form was presented to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
