Twin bombs exploded in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan on Wednesday, February 7, killing at least 22 people a day before the country’s general elections on Thursday, February 8.

The tragic incidents happened outside election offices, while some voters waited anxiously to cast their votes for Thursday’s polls.

The first was in Qilla Saifullah, near an office of the Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) political party, and at the office of Asfandyar Khan Kakar, a political candidate in Pishin district, the province’s information minister said.

Only a few days ago, five people were killed in explosions that rocked An election rally in one of the country’s districts, which the Islamic State-Khorasan took responsibility for.

Speaking on the development, the provincial government Spokesperson Jan Achakzai, said elections will be held as scheduled, as terrorists will not be allowed to disrupt the country’s democratic process.

“It is important to emphasise that the scheduled elections will proceed as planned,” Achakzai said.
