Jasmine Paolini has become the first Italian woman in the Open Era to reach a Wimbledon final after completing an incredible comeback to oust Donna Vekic in a roller-coaster encounter on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Italian was two games away from defeat before clawing back to triumph 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-8) after over two-and-a-half hours on Centre Court.
She is the fifth woman in the last 25 years to reach the title match at the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.
The No. 7 seed overcame two breaks in the final set to secure her spot in the Grand Slam final for the second consecutive time. Her remarkable performance in the thrilling match tiebreaker further cements her breakout 2024 season, in which she won her first WTA 1000 victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships and made it to the Roland Garros final.
She will play the winner of the second semi-final clash between former Grand Slam champions Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova.
