Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has committed to banning ‘political’ slogans at their home games after fans displayed a large “Free Palestine” banner at the Parc des Princes.
The display, seen before PSG’s defeat to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, included a blood-stained Palestinian flag, an image of the Al-Aqsa mosque, and a young boy wrapped in a Lebanese flag. In support of the Palestinians against the brutal oppression of the Israeli forces, the Paris Ultras Collective (CUP), a fan group, displayed the banner alongside the message: “War on the pitch but peace in the world.”
In response, PSG held discussions with the French Football Federation and government officials, agreeing to stricter measures against what it termed ‘political messaging’ in the stands. A government spokesperson described the talks as frank and constructive, and PSG pledged to implement new protocols starting with their next home match.
PSG stated that they were unaware of the banner plan and confirmed they will work to “guarantee the absence of political messages” in the future.
