Parliamentarians in Nigeria’s House of Representatives have applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continuing the reconstruction of the road that linked Abia State with Imo State, including the component bridge that was destroyed over five decades ago, during the civil war.
At a press briefing in Umuahia, the South-East representative on the North East Development Commission, NEDC board, Hon. Sam Onuigbo said the bridge which links Abia and Imo communities has been in a despicable state since after the Civil War ended in 1970 and applauded Tinubu on the positive reports he has received on the ongoing reconstruction.
The former lawmaker stated that the president had exhibited statesmanship by not abandoning projects initiated by his predecessor and for keeping the various federal projects awarded in the South-East by the previous administration.
Onuigbo, specially commended the president over the pace and quality of work on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene federal highway, Okwe and Isiala road in Ikwuano of Abia state and urged the federal government to sustain the tempo until the project is fully delivered.
The two-term federal lawmaker hinged his optimism on the fact that the present Abia State Governor, Mr.Alex Otti, unlike his predecessor, has “shown willingness” to cooperate with the federal government to realise the project which was frustrated over unnecessary partisanship by the previous administration.
