Pastor’s Wife Killed by Assassins in Church Shooting in Nigeria

Pastor Attacked and Wife Killed in Edo Church Shooting"

In what appears to be a sinister incident, individuals believed to be hired assassins have launched a brutal attack on Reverend Samuel Chinyereugo, a pastor, resulting in the tragic death of his wife, Peace, in the state of Edo.

Reports indicate that the assailants forcefully entered the premises of God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly, a church situated at 101, Upper Lawani Street, New Benin, Benin City, at approximately 7:36pm on the evening of Monday, August 14, 2023. The attackers, armed with firearms, directed their aggression towards the pastor.

Additionally, the assistant pastor suffered injuries to his head during the assault. This shocking incident unfolded during a rehearsal involving church members, including the assistant pastor, who were outside the church premises, preparing for an upcoming event scheduled for the same day. It was at this time that the pastor and his wife arrived.

A confidential source, choosing not to reveal their identity, said that the assailants had stalked the pastor and his wife, tailing them as they drove to the church. Upon the couple’s arrival and subsequent parking of their vehicle in front of the church, the attackers unleashed a hail of bullets upon them.

“The pastor’s wife sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries a few hours later at a medical facility,” stated the source. “Meanwhile, her husband, the pastor, and his deputy were treated for their injuries and subsequently discharged.”

Recounting the ordeal, the pastor recounted how he had earlier observed a vehicle following him while he was within the GRA (Government Reserved Area) locality. To his astonishment, the same vehicle abruptly stopped behind him in front of the church.

The grim event took an even more distressing turn as three armed individuals exited the vehicle. One of them approached the pastor and forcibly took a cross pendant from his necklace, while the other two assailants fired shots from the rear.

Confirming the incident, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the state’s police department, disclosed that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for the heinous act, ensuring they face legal consequences.
