Paul Pogba’s Brother and Five Others Charged With Extortion

World Cup winner Paul Pogba’s brother, Mathias Pogba, is set to face trial along with five other men in connection with an extortion case targeting the soccer player two years ago.

The prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday that Mathias Pogba has been ordered to stand trial for “the offences of attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy,” and the court date is yet to be announced. The other five individuals, identified only by their first names, allegedly demanded $14.3 million from the French midfielder and repeatedly harassed him.

They have been accused of extortion and attempted extortion through the use of violence, abduction, and confinement to facilitate a crime or misdemeanour, as well as criminal conspiracy.

During the investigation, Pogba admitted that he had paid around $70,000 to the organised group, which included his brother.

The case came to light in August 2022 when Mathias Pogba posted a video on social media claiming that he would reveal “explosive” information about his brother Paul, his agent Rafaela Pimenta, and Mbappé.

Mathias Pogba, who was briefly held in custody, also had a career as a soccer player, playing for lower-tier teams in Europe.
