The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) has suspended Chief Felix Omemu on a one-month suspension due to alleged misconduct and unauthorised comments that undermined the ZEC’s meeting on Saturday in Benin, Edo State.
Rivers State Speaker Martin Amaewhule proposed the motion for Omemu’s suspension, supported by Godwin Offiono, the representative for the Ogoja/Yala constituency in Cross River State, at the 10th National Assembly.
In a statement made in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Omemu argued that the meeting, convened by the PDP’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, was illegitimate, asserting that according to the PDP’s constitution, only the Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) members can authorize a ZEC meeting.
Omemu pointed out that there had never been a discussion among the ZWC members about agreeing to hold a ZEC meeting.

However, Amaewhule accused the suspended zonal secretary of misconduct, breaching trust, and creating divisions among group members.
He explained that the suspension resulted from Omemu issuing unauthorised statements to the media regarding the ZEC meeting for the PDP in the South-South zone while urging members to stay away.
Following Omemu’s suspension, the PDP’s South-South zonal legal adviser, George Turnah, has been designated the acting zonal secretary.
Orbih, the former Chairman of the PDP in Edo, who is aligned with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, commended the ZEC members for the suspension, which he described as a positive move.
